April Showers Bring May Flowers

A review of April leagues, highlights, & new events to look forward to.

Mother Nature did not want us to enjoy ourselves this past April. We got slammed with multiple snowstorms and heavy rain. However, May is turning out to be amazing!! We’re crossing our fingers for a sunny, hot, and dry summer (well maybe like a couple days of rain is fine)!

Trivia Question:In cornhole, how many points is it if the bag goes in the hole? If you answered 3, you’re correct! But the true question is, what pairs best with cornhole? We’ll give you the answer to this one. A local cold beer! Our Cornhole Leagues are held at Austin Street Brewery (Fox Street location) and Definitive Brewing Company. Both breweries offer great beers, BUT also non-beer options like seltzers, cider, etc.

Here are some upcoming leagues we’re excited about:

We’re excited for all upcoming leagues because we’re OUTSIDE! Some May Leagues are already at capacity, but Outdoor Soccer, Summer Flag Football, and more still have space! Another annual Summer League rapidly approaching is Monday 11 v 11 Women’s Soccer! Y es, it’s full field! League starts on June 10 at USM Gorham - Hannaford Field!

Soccer Champions

This past season, a few soccer leagues ended their games outside! To each and every Champion, congratulations! Some games were nail-biters! The strong shots that were being thrown at the goalies kept them alert at all times. In case you missed it, we have exciting news to share: we have a THIRD field! Join the upcoming Leagues if you haven't already! The next League begins on May 23rd!

Flag Football

Flag football season is underway! There are 26(!) teams battling for the division cups! We look forward to some incredible interceptions, “flag” tackles, touchdowns, and Hail Marys. However, the CELEBRATIONS are what we are most excited about! Celebrate in style and with something unique; maybe our Social Media Rep will capture it on camera! Wishing all participating teams the best of luck, and we are excited for the new Leagues that begin in June!

Just some reminders:

Be kind to your referees - they make mistakes or miss calls, they’re human!
Good sportsmanship is a MUST
Have fun! Being competitive is great, but we’re not the NFL!

Indoor Softball Champions

Sometimes a shift in setting and atmosphere can sometimes have a significant impact. Turf or grass. LED lights or blue sky. Indoors VS. Outdoors makes a BIG difference. Not for Dilly Dilly Bing Bong, who absolutely crushed it out of the park (technically speaking, Dome)! Great fielding combined with their hot bats led them to win the Championship Cups! Now that the Indoor Softball season has wrapped up, all of the Leagues are outdoors! Start dates for all Outdoor Softball Leagues are in early to mid-May! If you haven't already, make sure you sign up!

Pickleball Champions

We're switching to Outdoor Pickleball after one final Indoor League ends at the end of May! Tuesday League will begin on May 14 while Monday League has just begun. No two pickleball leagues are alike! We discovered during the most recent playoffs that each team has a unique method for boosting excitement and motivation. While some partners like to "stay in your lane" and be quiet and formal, other partners like to nag and "shit talk" at one another. Whatever method works for you, use it! Congratulations to Spicy Pickles, Dinkorenzos, Dinking Buddies, and Pickle My Balls!

Where did time go? It’s December…

A review of November leagues, highlights, & new events to look forward to.

We hope everyone’s Holiday season is going well and that you are enjoying time with family while gearing up for Winter!

This coming Winter we have space in a a few leagues that could be added to your exercise & social routines!

Pickleball: We’ve opened another Night of Indoor Pickleball! This Pickleball league plays on Sundays at the Maine Basketball Academy @ Steven’s Square starting 12/10 (Last minute space available).

Indoor Golf: Give Indoor Golf a try! FRIDAY Indoor golf @ X-Golf in Portland starts just after the NEW YEAR (January 5th)! Afternoon tee times, Bar & Grill onsite, stats, & more!

Fun Fact: For our 15th year anniversary, we’re throwing a PARTY: January 12th starting at 6:30 pm at Three Dollar Dewey’s! More details to come, but mark your calendars, invite your teammates & RSVP HERE!

Welcome Back Floor Hockey!

We’re psyched because Coed Floor Hockey is BACK! You have some time to sign up because League starts on January 10th! But don’t wait too long, we expect it to be popular this Winter! This League is held at Boys & Girls Clubs of South Portland. There are some specific rules and equipment needed, so check out our website for details! You can also reach out to us with any further questions!

Bowling Championships

Bowling finished off the Fall sessions at the beginning of November. We had different leagues and divisions playing which means several champions were crowned! We’re giving a shout-out to the GoodNYou Crew from Division C because one of their bowlers was on FIRE, It felt like he couldn’t miss! Very impressive! Congrats to all our Fall Bowling Champions!

Dodgeball Championships

And there was one. The championship game was a nail biter! The hits kept going back and forth and ended in a tie, which led to sudden death OT! With one person left on each side, both of them threw and both got hit! The odds for this to happen are very slim. Don’t Leddy the Air Out of My Tire tops their opponent and won the Tuesday Dodgeball Championship!

I.T.W.P Championship

If you don’t know what I.T.W.P stands for, it’s Inner Tube Water Polo! Second ranked Totally Tabular takes home the Championship Cup! All games were exciting and we’re glad the return of I.T.W.P. had a great vibe this season. We do have another League scheduled, but after the Cape swim team season is finished…. The next session starts February 21st!

Who’s ready to be inside?

A review of October leagues, highlights, & new events to look forward to.

October is not only meant for apple picking, getting lost in a maze, pumpkin spice, foliage peeping, and Halloween, it’s also meant for the last bit of outdoor league action before we move indoors for that amazing Maine Winter!

This coming Winter, we have space in a a few leagues that could be added to your exercise & social routines!

Tuesday Indoor Golf has TWO spots left! The League resumes on 11/14 and runs for 7-8 weeks! The venue is X-Golf Portland and has simulators and a bar & grill onsite!

For softball players, there is an option for your squad to stay together this Winter! Check out Tuesday Indoor Softball @ The Portland Sports Complex! This league starts on 11/14 and there is space for TWO teams!

Fun Fact: Did you know that about 75% of adults played sports when they were younger, but only 25% continue to play sports as adults! Yay, you're part of that 25%!

Basketball Championship

The Chupapies may have taken home the Championship reign, but it was a nail biting game! The game was back and forth for the first 15 minutes, but the Chupapies headed into halftime up by 4 points. Their opponent was strong on the boards, grabbing any second chance rebounds for a chance to score. The Chupapies were on fire and made a majority of their shots. The Chupapies started pulling away with 10 minutes left on the clock and sealed the win with draining three pointers back-to-back.

Softball Championships

Within the past month, we’ve had 8 Softball Champions across all session! It’s sad that this will be the last outdoor sport until next year! Congrats to: Free Basers (Mon), One Hit Wonders (Mon), Andrea’s Bridal (Sun), Mighty Melonheads (Sun), Stallions (Wed), & Trippin Balls (Tues)!

Dodgeball is back!

Dodgeball is crazy! The key to dodgeball is to “dodge” the ball, but we saw a lot people getting hit! Every game is fast paced, and adrenaline was sky high! There are so many different techniques used in order to get someone out! Balls thrown at great speed, tag teaming with a buddy to get one person out, or a soft toss to bait with a hard throw to follow. If you want to watch some intense action & fun, head to Breakwater School on Tuesdays!

Kickball League Champions

Friendly rivalry is the best, and is exactly what we saw between Funtown and Splashtown in the Championship Game! It was a race against time to claim the Golden Ball because they needed to have a Champion before sundown. The game consisted of mainly amazing defensive plays. Funtown was able to find “holes” within the Splashtown’s defense, which lead to runs. Funtown took home the Golden Ball!

Wow, September Flew By!

A review of September leagues, highlights, & new events to look forward to.

Who would of guessed that it’s already October? The action is going strong indoors and outdoors with many leagues starting Fall Seasons in September!

Just a reminder that we are beginner friendly, so definitely try some new sports you’ve been thinking about! Or if you want to make friends and socialize, join as a free agent in a sport that interests you!

Snow is coming (yes unfortunately), so how do you keep that golf swing tuned up? Each Fall we partner with X-Golf in Portland with simulated play! The Tuesday Indoor Golf League tees off on October 24th adn plays every Tuesday for 8 weeks. Another bonus - There’s a bar and grill onsite for mid round socializing!

Fun Fact: Did you know Casco Bay Sports offers pickup soccer? If you do not want to commit to 6-8 week season or could not find a team, but still want to exercise, this is a great opportunity for you! Check out the Soccer page on our website which will provide you with information on the next pickup soccer game. There is Tuesday Indoor Pickup Soccer scheduled for October 10th at Portland Sports Complex.
