CBS Newsletter - August League Action Re-Cap!

Goodbye Summer, Hello Fall!

A review of August leagues, highlights, & new events to look forward to.

This summer brought us a lot of unexpected rain, but that did not stop us from playing! Summer Leagues have officially ended which means Fall and Winter sports return. August was action packed with outdoor sports leagues!

We weren’t sure if this sport would return after our beloved “Cube” closed but…..Duck, jump, swerve, and dodge because Dodgeball is back! The league is back in action on Tuesdays at the good ol’ Breakwater School.

Ever try Co-Ed Inner Tube Water Polo? - This random sport that delivers amazing exercise only happens a few times a year. The Fall League kicks off on October 11 (every Wednesday) at Cape Elizabeth High School!

Fun Fact: Casco Bay Sports was founded in 2008! That was 15 years ago! We truly appreciate YOU for being part of our Casco Bay Sports community.

Monday Co-Ed Outdoor Soccer Champions

The word "perseverance" is clearly exemplified by Brooke's House! Without a substitute, they played three games straight-ahead, and they were shorthanded for a portion of Game One. Due to outstanding communication, Brooke's House was able to replace the goaltender with an on-field athlete so they could rest. To top off their hard work, Brooke’s house scored with minutes left in the Championship Game to win 1-0.

Sunday Flag Football Champions

Expectations for the Summer Sunday Division A Championship game were exceeded by a wide range of thrilling plays. Ruffhouse delivered outstanding performances when they needed it the most. Larkin made incredible catches that resulted in vital touchdowns. Vice's last-ditch Hail Mary attempt was blocked, crowning Ruffhouse Champions.

Tuesday Golf Championships

The Tuesday Summer Golf League was our biggest yet with 34 teams! Three divisions of match play took place over the course of three weeks in July after a grueling regular season of rain, wind, and some sun! Some great shots were made and post game beers were had - Congrats to our champions: Mystery Meat, Vinegar Strokes, & Triple C’s!

Wednesday Kickball Championships

Playoff season is a different season! Imagine that each team starts with a 0-0 record. The Wednesday Night Kickball Playoffs were played on turf at Portland Sports Complex, which was very different from their usual venue of grass at Fox Street. Kickin’ Balls was up for the challenge. The Championship Game started slow for both teams with “3 and out” for a couple of innings. Kickin' Balls benefited from a chaotic play that began with a good kick and resulted in crazed base running. One score was followed immediately by another. Kickin' Balls maintained their momentum and lead to claim The Championship.
